Judy Pace

Judy Pace, PhD is a Professor in the Teacher Education Department at the University of San Francisco’s School of Education. Prior to USF, Judy taught in special education and progressive schools in the Boston area and worked at Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she earned her doctorate in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy. 

Her research examines classroom teaching and curriculum — focusing on history/social studies —and its relationship to diversity, democracy, and sociopolitical contexts. She has studied classroom authority relationships and academic engagement, teaching for democratic citizenship in government classes, social studies under high stakes accountability, and teacher education. Most recently she has conducted cross-national research and professional development on preparing teachers to teach controversial issues and in 2023-24 will be a Fulbright global scholar, collaborating on this work with teacher educators in Bosnia and Herzegovina and South Africa.
