John Rogers

UCLA School of Education and Information Studies

John Rogers is a Professor at UCLA’s School of Education and Information Studies.  He is Director of UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education, and Access and Faculty Director of Center X, which houses UCLA’s Teacher Education Program, Principal Leadership Program, and professional development initiatives.  Rogers studies the relationship among democracy, education, and different forms of inequality and has written widely on democratic participation and community organizing as strategies for advancing educational equity and civic renewal. 

Since 2016, his research has examined how political division and racist hostility affect student well-being and learning in U.S. public schools, as well as the role of democratic school leaders in forging a multiracial democracy.  John Rogers is the recipient of the American Educational Research Association’s Presidential Citation.  He received his Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University and his B.A. in Public Policy and African American Studies from Princeton University.
